Internet Usage Leaves TV in its Wake

In a recent interview with the BBC (January 2006), Rupert Murdoch, made a comment that the print publishing industry would be wise to listen to.

Rupert Murdoch made some early forays into the online business at the end of the 90's that ended in tears, but like many serial entrepreneurs, he has acknowledged these mistakes, learned from them and is now back online with vengeance.

Murdoch's acquisition of MySpace has indicated he is back with real intent. He believes that the future of publishing is digital and is openly encouraging other print publishers to wake up and smell the coffee.

Some will, many won't.

“I believe we are at the dawn of a golden age of information – an empire of new knowledge. It is difficult – indeed dangerous – to underestimate the huge changes this revolution will bring to print media or the power of developing technologies to build and destroy companies.”

“Companies that expect a glorious past in print to shield them from the forces of change driven by advancing technology will fail and fall.”
